Westmorland Upholstery

Westmoreland Reupholstery create both traditional and modern upholstery pieces, using local Cumbrian fabric to give each item a sustainable second life. Hilary works entirely by hand, crafting each bespoke piece in her workshop in Staveley, in the Kentmere Valley.

Each reupholstered item takes Hilary hours to produce, but is built to last, showcasing the best of our talented fabric producers here in Cumbria – including Herdwick Tweed, Lake District Tweed and Laura’s Loom, whose products are all featured elsewhere in the Grasmere Gather. Hilary is as passionate as we are about supporting local producers and guaranteeing Cumbrian provenance, which also creates a much lower carbon footprint.

Work like Hilary’s is an essential part of our collective journey towards sustainability, saving items from landfill by giving them a new lease of life. Hilary also uses sustainable inners, natural fabrics like wool, and material recycled from the fashion industry instead of damaging synthetic fibres like foam. All her pieces – such as the beautiful Herdwick Tweed footstools featured here – are the perfect combination of elegance, sustainability and practicality, adding a touch of durable luxury to any household.
