The Paper Foundation are specialists in the production of fine handmade papers. They operate a traditional paper mill in Burneside, in the Lake District, which has been a mill village since the Middle Ages and a papermaking community since 1746.
Each sheet of paper is individually handmade by their expert craftsmen, using traditional paper-making fibres such as linen, hemp, cotton and flax. Alongside their stock range, the Paper Foundation serves several long-running individual commissions, including from HM The Queen.
Aside from making beautiful paper, The Paper Foundation is classed as a charitable organisation, committed to advancing education and the arts. This mission has already reaped huge benefits for Burneside and beyond – preserving heritage skills, keeping the tradition of papermaking alive, and maintaining creative careers within the Lake District.
