Gemma Whitaker Ceramics

Gemma Whitaker makes contemporary porcelain tableware and homeware, as well as jewellery cut from her distinctive marbled ceramic. Each of Gemma’s pieces is handcrafted in her studio in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, and is inspired by the striking lines of ‘wishing rocks’.

Gemma throws the majority of her work on a wheel, using porcelain which she stains in a coastal-inspired palette. The patterns created are often reminiscent of calm seascapes, or brooding stormy skies. Due to the unique nature of her staining technique, each design remains a mystery until the very end of the making process, when Gemma removes the excess clay to reveal the finished design.

Gemma’s distinctive technique also means that no two pieces of tableware, homeware or jewellery will ever look the same – meaning you can select and take home an entirely unique piece of art, as well as supporting heritage industries in the North of England.
