Based in Leicestershire, Emma Swales creates stunning handmade pottery that combines artistry with practical functionality. Working from her garden studio, Emma uses a range of techniques to produce limited editions, small batches, and unique one-off pieces. Her current work combines simple forms with expressive glazing to create distinctly individual pieces which evoke a sense of moody skies, dramatic landscapes and coastal shores.
Growing up in a creative family, Emma began her career in pottery 10 years ago. Emma draws inspiration from the natural landscapes that shaped her early years in Cumbria and the Lake District. She enjoys experimenting with a mix of earthy tones and vibrant colours and works predominately with white and grey stoneware. Emma focuses on texture and depth, giving each piece a tactile, handcrafted quality. Whether functional or decorative, her ceramics are made to be both enjoyed and used, with each piece reflecting Emma’s passion for the handmade and unique.
