With a background in contemporary sculpture, Ailsa trained as an artist in London before spending over a decade working in the film industry. Her shift from the cinematic world to ceramics combines her knowledge of fine art with a practical approach to everyday objects.
Ailsa’s work is defined by simplicity and functionality, with a focus on creating versatile pieces that balance beauty and utility. Her designs are heavily influenced by the textures and tones of both the natural and urban environments and she is continually experimenting and developing her distinctive style. She was a member of Edinburgh Ceramics Workshop before co-founding Portland Street Pottery in Leith in the summer of 2024.
